Had the Whole Evening Free

Let’s pretend I just told you all about how much I’ve always wanted to make my own clothes since the ones on stores are almost never good enough for me; or how, when I’m see a drawing or hear a quote, I constantly think to myself “that’s a nice idea for a t-shirt… I’m sure a well constructed paragraph explaining those points would be the perfect intro for this entry. But I’m not known for my perfect intros, there’s no need to mess with my reputation.

About a month ago I bought a bunch of Hanes Men’s Fitted V-Neck T-Shirts with the idea of dying, cutting, sewing and drawing something on them… And, let me spoil that for you, that’s exactly what I did.

This is what I was working with… I can’t find a funny way to say it isn’t exactly my size.

First t-shirt I made. Not exactly perfection (it was time for a Friends reference, now); it was my first pancake, some may say.

The drawing is from the debut album by The Matches.

It wasn’t easy to take pictures of myself from a non-MySpace angle. So I took a picture of my reflection and then I mirrored it on photoshop. (If you come up with a simpler way, please, don’t tell me. I’m really proud of my solution).

This one is a little bit better. I found that quote somewhere on the net, and I take credit for the font. Yay!

Somehow, this shirt reminded me of Karen Smith’s uniform from Mean Girls:

I'm not comparing my rack to Amanda Seyfried’s… You know what? Screw it, I am. I have nice boobs.

This IS perfection. I should be humble, but fuck that, this drawing took me ages and a few tears.

If you’re wondering they are the Fashion Club (from Daria) dressed as the Ramones.

I took the quote from the internet as well… I already do my own clothes; you can’t expect me to come up with my own quotes too.

I still have 4 more shirts to go. I know what I want to do with 3 of them, if someone wants to share ideas for the fourth one, I will… Hm… Thank him/her, I guess. That’s all I can do right now; I have no money on my own and promising sex doesn’t sound like a good idea.

Thank you for your time, and for not noticing the bra lying behind me. Even if it sounds like something I would do, I swear I didn’t put it there on purpose… I noticed it when I was checking the pictures on my laptop; by then, I was too tired to repeat the whole thing without the bra… (Huh, there’s a sentence guys may not like).

  1. I like the fashion club's one a lot, especially the bottom-and-angled placing of the image. Bravo!
Though the word sounds weird in Italian since it's a male noun. Therefore I should probably say "brava!" Whatever, you get the idea.

  2. Lola! These are amazing! I personally love the last one. Did you hand draw these? Use prints?? Great job!!

  3. That last one's great!

  4. @federico. Thank you! I thought about that a lot, I was going to draw them on the center...I have a huge argument with myself about it, the size, the placement… But I ended up really happy with my decision, so thanks for noticing it! :*

@dannifoley. Thanks! That one is my favorite too, I mean, I love the Fashion Club one because it was the hardest one to draw and I thought the final result was pretty good… But the design as a whole, definitely the last one. Thank you <3 I drew this by hand, with a special market for cotton fabrics.

@Anonymous. That’s my favorite too. I felt in love with the quote when I first read it and I knew I had to make a t-shirt with it. So, thank you very much (:

  6. Molan :D

Una amiga se hizo una con las frases del estribillo de la canción de Sweet Dreams poniendolas en primera persona. Le quedó bastante simpática la camiseta. La de "a nice cup of tea" es genial xD

  7. Awesome! I am guilty of seeing a quote and thinking, "Someone should make that into a t-shirt." Plus, I absolutely love the idea of making my own clothes, I just have no talent whatsoever for that kind of thing. I probably should learn though, cause I never find what I like in stores. xD Really good job though! I like the last one, a nice cup of tea haha.

  8. Daria was a great show. Very good work on those shirts! And I would definitely trade T-shirt money for sex... Or at least phone sex. Ok maybe I'd settle for you to send me a one-of-a-kind mens shirt. I'm just sayin'.

  9. almost forgot, You DO have great boobs. and here is my T-shirt quote for you "boobies make everything better".

  11. Hola muchacha, I definitely enjoyed this one. But who could guess why? lol. I understand that you must please the crowd and I must say that you have indeed done it. But on a more intellectual note, the last one is definitely the best. It's like a person will think of you one way first, when they read the big words, then change their minds when they read the smaller words. :D fun fun

  12. I would say I like the Fashion club one the best. It is an awesome drawing. If you wouldn’t have told me you drew it by hand I never would have believed it. That took some real talent, very impressive.

Two ideas/ challenges for you for other shirts:

    http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i252/ultimate91/Misc/anime-fairy.jpg

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i252/ultimate91/Misc/SSPl_Ukyo.jpg (I would draw the image then dye just a circle around it in red, Hell it sounds like such a cool idea I might have to try it, now if I could only draw.)

They are some of my favorite black and white images.

    Good luck.

PS. Did you shrink the dyed shirts? They look like they fit you better?

  13. You're such a tease lola.

I've been pondering screen printing for ages, but this is absolutely kick ass. I'm gonna order a batch of these markers right this minute. Although if I recall correctly, I would need an iron. Foiled again, curses!

Then again I just ordered a batch of shirts from the US of A, shipping was more than the purchase price, but I hope they're worth the hassle I went through.

  14. I quite like the last one.
    They all look pretty good.

  15. IN LOVE with the Fashion Club shirt. Daria=best show ever.

  16. @alexel. Yes, please… How many should I write you down for?

@Juanjo. Gracias! Sweet Dreams de Marilyn Manson? Como la haces en primer persona?

@Bree. You should try it, either way (if you want, of course) I didn’t have any idea of how to sew or dye before I started this whole project; and, even though they aren’t master pieces by a long shot, I think I did a nice job… So, if can do it, so can you.

@Chris. Oh, Daria <3 Awesome show. And thanks for the compliments, man, you’re always such a romantic.

@woshi4andy. Latinos do have that reputation, huh? Every ethnicity has its hot specimens.

@SheEtOuTohLuck. I don’t know if the “enjoying” and the “pleasing” part is some kind of innuendo… I will just let it pass. Glad you are satisfied, for whatever reason! Haha

@Jules. You definitely overestimate me! Thank you very much for that. The reason the fashion club one ended up looking so nice it’s because it is a simple drawing; no delicate strokes, or shadows… I’m really not that great of an artist; but I will agree with you on something, those images are beautiful. I sew every shirt, I wanted the white one to be a little bit “oversized” for that SexDrugsRocknRoll vibe.

@ Berthold. Yes! We are talking about the same markers… I thought just mine needed to be ironed. The ones you ordered are special in some kind of way? Why you needed them from the USA?

@Trexx. My favorite one too, thank you very much! (:

@kathodges. Thaaaanks! It was the hardest one to make, and I knew it was going to be a challenge from the beginning, but when I saw that picture on the credits from the show I was obsessed.

  17. Fácil: cambiando los "some of them" por "I" :D

    Juanzo.

  20. Very nice T-shirts =)
Responding to your "challenge" on quotes i think everybody should have some "nerdy" joke shirts. Specially girls! Since i should be working right now i can't go very far in recalling some ideas that i had before. (i too think "...i should do a T-SHIRT with this idea!!" ...but alas i'm lazy to do them ...hahaha)

So here's some jokes from a nerdy game called Fallout 3 (it's awesome btw)

A neutron walks into a bar "how much for a drink?" he asks. The bartender replies "For you, no charge"

Protons have mass? I didn't know they were Catholic

War does not determine who is right, only who is left

Two atoms are chilling in a bar, when one says to the other "Damn, I think I've lost an electron."
To which the other replies, "Are you positive?"

2 Canhibals are eating a Clown. One turns to the other and says: "Does this taste funny to You?"

By now your mouth should be a little dry ..so i'll stop =)

Also ..if you need some inspiration you can always check my favorite t-shirt site. Beware that this site has highly shocking and controversial shirts as they know no boundries in term of humour. If you think you can handle anything with good humour please google: T-shirt Hell and check it out.

  22. @ Juanjo. Como me hubiera gustado ya haber estado en España para festejar… Ni me imagino… Si no hubiera sido por la ideas de Hidalgo México no se hubiera independizado de España y también nosotros hubiéramos ganado el mundial… Pff jaja

@Pedro Calheiros. I do remember checking a tshirt with two atoms cracking the “losing an electron” joke.
Also, I know that site pretty damn well. I used to be a fan… For a tshirt I made long ago I used one of their ideas. “If I had balls, they’d be bigger than yours”.

@ PSYCHO. I’m guessing you’re talking about the hitting a ball with her boobs. Teehee! :D
